cabosanroque
cabosanroque is the artistic project of Laia Torrents and Roger Aixut, a creative duo that has built one of the most unique trajectories of the contemporary Catalan scene with their sound art and object theater from the border between disciplines. Active since the early 2000s, their work has moved between sound installation, object theater, performance and musical creation, always with a clear desire to escape labels and explore the limits between art and science, technology and poetry.
With diverse backgrounds —Torrents in industrial engineering and music, and Aixut in architecture— they have created their own language that combines hand-built machines, literary texts, sound artifacts and immersive stage devices. cabosanroque not only composes works, but also builds worlds: sensory spaces in which the audience comes into contact with objects that think, sounds that narrate and structures that feel.
Immersive sound installations and homage to popular memory
cabosanroque has developed a coherent production that often revolves around memory, the collective subconscious and the voice of minorities. Installations such as No em va fer Joan Brossa, Flors i violes, El so de les llavors or Dimonis are examples of how the duo transforms archives, oral testimonies and forgotten traditions into radically contemporary artistic experiences. Based on textual materials from figures such as Brossa, Verdaguer or Cèlia Sànchez-Mústich, cabosanroque generates pieces that are listened to with the whole body.
One of its distinctive features is the construction of sound machines with a high degree of technological sophistication and poetic sensitivity. These devices, which often have a sculptural character, not only produce sounds but also act as interpreters or characters within the performative story. For cabosanroque, sound is not an addition: it is narrative matter.
cabosanroque: between sound sculpture and expanded theatre
Their work has been exhibited in very diverse contexts: contemporary art centres, music festivals, museums, natural spaces and theatre facilities. They have collaborated with creators such as Carles Santos, Maria Arnal, Jordi Savall or Perejaume, and have been programmed in events such as Temporada Alta, the Grec Festival, Sónar or FiraTàrrega.
Laia Torrents and Roger Aixut have made cabosanroque a platform for open, rigorous and undisciplined creation, capable of connecting experimental electronics with popular culture, technological research with sensory theatre. Their work is a resolute commitment to art as a transformative experience.
