The Festival has become an important shop window for national stage production and the gateway of the top foreign productions
The organising committee of the Max Awards for Performing Arts has conferred the 2012 Max Award to New Trends to Temporada Alta – Girona/Salt Autumn Festival of Catalonia. Over the years, this theatre programme has become a benchmark event and is forging a place for itself among the top theatre festivals in Europe. Salvador Sunyer, the director of Temporada Alta, will receive the accolade during the 15th Max Awards presentation ceremony, on 30 April next, at the Circo Price Theatre in Madrid.
Throughout its twenty-year history, Temporada Alta – Girona/Salt Autumn Festival of Catalonia has won the recognition of the sector and of the specialist Press, who have ranked it as the "best festival in Spain". It is also a model festival due to its formula of management (sponsored from private initiative, with the support of the Public Administration), of financing (it incorporates the private sector, along with an independent theatrical patronage club) and through the fact that it is a platform for introducing and presenting the most innovative offerings in the Performing Arts. Artists such as Jan Fabre, Angélica Liddell, Carles Santos, Krystian Lupa, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Maria Pagés, Claudio Tolcachir, Baró d’Evel, Alain Platel or Christoph Marthaler have presented their productions and Isabelle Huppert, The Propeller company of Edward Hall, Claudio Tolcachir or William Kentridge among others have performed for the first time in Spain thanks to this festival.
