Teatre Municipal de Girona

The Municipal Theatre of Girona is a public facility managed by Girona City Council whose mission is to generate knowledge by highlighting the performing arts (theatre, music, circus) and their capacity to generate a more critical and committed citizenship.

The cultural project of the Municipal Theatre of Girona puts citizens at the centre, deploying different programmes that enable the activation of a dialogue of proximity, opening the theatre to inhabit it, to form part of it and to create community.

Its season programme, which includes both theatre and concerts, as well as the different cycles and festivals (such as Temporada Alta), are committed to bringing audiences creations that bring singularity to the context, through the themes that their shows address, or through the renewal of language that they bring to the current scene. Contemporary creation coexists naturally with a more generalist programme, aimed at a wide audience.

Guaranteeing access to culture is one of the objectives of the Municipal Theatre of Girona, and to this end it deploys an educational programme that combines the offer of shows with different projects and actions that introduce contemporary artistic practices in the classroom, with the help of artists and cultural mediators. Support for local creation is also at the heart of the project, and is provided through artistic and technical residencies, as well as a programme of artistic accompaniment aimed at emerging companies in the region.

The Municipal Theatre of Girona is a facility that forms part of the cultural ecosystem of Girona, it is a permeable and open space that collaborates with different agents and organisations, both public and private, establishing long-term relationships.
