A poetic museum to awaken the memory of objects

Museo de los relámpagos is a fantastic small-scale architecture that brings together revelations and rebellions of objects from various collections. Based on residencies and fieldwork in museum storerooms, the project by Shaday Larios and Jomi Oligor gathers stories of found pieces, testimonies from custodians, dreams and animistic outbursts of matter and beings that demand a voice, restitution and a new space of meaning.

Conceived as an invented “poetic institution”, the museum combines automata, analogue machines, object theatres, display cases and corridors of critical memory to imagine other ways of making a museum outside the museum. The proposal questions the technical-historical and colonialist discourses that decontextualise collections and separate objects from their biographies. Drawing on fantasy and science fiction, it offers a political reflection on the desire to possess, accumulate and immobilise cultural heritage.
