Martin Harriague and the Bilaka collective fuse dance and traditional music to remember the historic bombing of Gernika
Basque choreographer Martin Harriague, in collaboration with the Bilaka collective, presents Gernika, a captivating show of dance and live music that revisits the bombing of the Basque city on the fateful 26th of April, 1937. Five dancers and three musicians blend traditional Basque dances with a contemporary language to recreate the historical and emotional impact of the massacre. Amid hypnotic rhythms, percussion, and verses by Odei Barroso, the piece unfolds as a scenic ritual of collective memory — a work that delves into the past to reclaim peace and hope.
