Temporada Alta opens its doors with two pieces by the most acclaimed English playwright. The Royal Shakespeare Company returns with one of Shakespeare’s darkest works and, at the same time, one of his most contemporary: Mesura per mesura. The play, a powerful critique of those in power, tells the story of the lieutenant Angelo, who, determined to prosecute fornication, sentences a young gentleman to death for having made his fiancée pregnant outside marriage.
Shakespeare will speak Sardinian in Macbettu. This will be in the piece by Alessandro Serra, one of the most distinctive directors on the Italian scene, although the production is based on an eminently physical theatre rather than on text and words. This production has catapulted him onto the international stage. A version of Shakespeare’s Macbeth transposed to the native culture of the Mediterranean island of Sardinia.
And if you are still in the mood for more Shakespeare, a good option is to make it a triple bill and go to see La tendresa, an ingenious romantic tangle full of games, metaphors and sexual misunderstandings that will tour several towns: Palafrugell, Torroella de Montgrí, Sant Feliu de Guíxols and Girona.
After the great feeling left by the sold-out 10th anniversary of El Pot Petit —in fact, the first show that could be seen on Sunday 6— we now fully open our doors to make room for the most varied performing arts, designed for audiences of all kinds.
