Temporada Alta closes its most difficult edition, after a programme of almost three months marked by the measures taken to combat Covid-19, with a total audience figure of 88,876 people. In spite of the complexity of organising and managing this 29th edition, the audience figures are 12,991 theatregoers, 70,286 remote viewings, 1,600 participants in complementary activities and 3,999 participants in the educational project ‘A Tempo – Arts i Formació’. Of the total number of views of the remote programme, introduced this year for the first time, 8,756 were pay-per-view and 61,530 were free content.
The festival succeeded in maintaining almost all the performances as originally planned and with ticket sales of 88.8%, a figure that is only half a percentage point below the one for last year, even though the limit of capacity was 50% as a measure to combat the pandemic. While the original permitted occupancy was 70%, Temporada Alta decided to put the safety of our theatregoers first and put only 50% of the capacity on sale.
Temporada Alta presented a total of 111 shows during the 2020 edition, 56 of which could be viewed in person in the theatre and 55 remotely. Faced with the closure of theatres for two weeks, the festival organisers decided to extend Temporada Alta until 22 December and reschedule as many shows as possible, either in person or offering them as part of the online viewing programme. Despite the measures to combat the pandemic and the restrictions on both mobility and capacity of venues, of the 120 shows originally programmed, just 4 had to be cancelled (Fairfly, La lluna en un pot, Il Terzo Reich and La consagración de la primavera) and 3 more were rescheduled to be staged in the coming months or in the next edition of Temporada Alta (Llibràlegs, Testimoni de guerra and Els gossos).
From the outset, Temporada Alta has followed a policy of refunding ticket prices to anyone affected by the changes in scheduling and related restrictions, and by 15 December we have refunded 7,811 tickets.
