Professional trajectory of Marcos Morau

Trained between Barcelona and New York, in photography, movement and theatre, Marcos Morau builds imaginary worlds and landscapes where movement and image meet and engulf each other. He achieved the highest qualification in his final project and the extraordinary prize for creation at the Institut de Teatre de Barcelona. His artistic knowledge is not limited to dance, but extends to other disciplines such as photography and dramaturgy, studying the Master’s in Dramaturgy Theory between the UAB, Pompeu Fabra University and the Theater Institute itself.

For more than ten years, Marcos Morau has directed La Veronal as director, choreographer and set, costume and lighting designer. In addition to his work with La Veronal, Marcos Morau is a guest artist in several companies and theaters around the world where he develops new creations, always halfway between the performing arts and dance: Ndt, El Ballet de l’Opera de Gothenburg , Ballet de Rhin, Royal Danish Ballet, Scapino Ballet, Carte Blanche, Ballet de Lorraine, National Dance Company, Lucerne Opera Ballet, Grands Ballets Candiens among many others.

Marcos Morau: Catalan choreographer with great international projection

Being the youngest National Dance Award winner in Spain, Marcos Morau’s language is a heritage of abstract movement and physical theatre. A powerful body language based on the annihilation of all organic logic, dissecting movement and turning it into a unique identity. In addition, Marcos Morau has been awarded the FAD Sebastià Gasch prize, awarded by the FAD foundation of Arts and Design, or the TimeOut prize for the best creator, among others.

With his creations he has managed to win prizes in numerous national and international choreographic competitions such as the International Choreographic Competition of Hanover, the Choreographic Competition of Copenhagen, Madrid, etc. In addition to his creative side, Marcos Morau combines his creations with teaching, teaching classes and workshops around creative processes and new dramaturgies in conservatories, cycles and universities, such as the Theater Institute, the University of the Arts of Strasbourg or the New Sorbonne in Paris, among others. The future of Morau opens up to new formats and languages where Opera, dance and physical theater dialogue closer than ever, looking for new ways to express and communicate in our present, always turbulent and changing times.
