‘The Hague’ brings the war in Ukraine to the stage with humour and tragedy
The Hague is a sharp, comic, and chilling allegory about the war in Ukraine. Author Sasha Denisova imagines a future trial against Putin and his inner circle for the crime of having broken normality. The trial does not take place in a real courtroom, but inside the mind of a young girl who becomes both prosecutor and witness. Directed by Galin Stoev, with an aesthetic that oscillates between Shakespeare and Monty Python, the play blends reality and fiction, music and politics, document and myth. A tragic and brilliant perspective on war, its victims, and the need for justice.
