Sicalíptiques
A musical and theatrical journey through the Paral·lel of the cuplé, between modernity, provocation, and female empowerment
A musical and theatrical journey through the Paral·lel of the cuplé, between modernity, provocation, and female empowerment
With dramaturgy by Josep Maria Miró and direction by Xavier Albertí, Sicalíptiques revives the cuplé as a key genre in early 20th-century Catalan popular culture, in an expanded version of the show that includes the full band of Le Croupier. Through music and double entendre, the performance brings back the irreverent spirit of the Paral·lel and the artists who transformed it into a space of avant-garde expression. A stage manifesto in which the voices of the cupletistas become a symbol of emancipation, modernity, and social critique.
