David Verdaguer will voice a selection of texts written by Oscar Wilde from prison
In this staged reading, David Verdaguer will lend his voice to Oscar Wilde’s most heartrending text. Temporada Alta, in collaboration with Festival Clàssics, presents a selection of excerpts from De Profundis, the long letter Oscar Wilde wrote from Reading Gaol to Lord Alfred Douglas, his lover. A devastating testimony of love, pain and redemption, written from the depths of darkness, exile and suffering, yet full of light. Oscar Wilde turns desire into confession, love into a wound, and words into redemption as he tells his story.
The author, a symbol of aestheticism and a victim of Victorian hypocrisy, is one of the most brilliant and provocative writers at the turn of the 19th century and the author of classics such as The Picture of Dorian Gray and The Importance of Being Earnest. In De Profundis, he painted a profound portrait of his downfall and spiritual transformation. A reading that transcends time and challenges us to reflect on beauty, freedom and suffering.
