One of the great European versions of Hamlet of the 21st century: radical, physical, and deeply contemporary
With over fifteen years of international acclaim, Thomas Ostermeier’s Hamlet has become a landmark in contemporary European theatre. Premiered at the Schaubühne in Berlin in 2008, the production presents an unaltered, highly physical, and raw version of Shakespeare’s text, featuring Lars Eidinger in an iconic portrayal of the Prince of Denmark. This interpretation is charged with visceral intensity, dark humor, and striking scenography that brings the original play’s existential and political dilemmas into the present day.
