To Move in Time is a monologue written by Tim Etchells for performer and collaborator Tyrone Huggins, where a nameless protagonist playfully wonders what they would do if they could travel back and forth in time.
From fantasies about changing the present, to obsessions with small details from the past or ideas to get rich by using knowledge of the future, the text unfolds as a stream of thoughts both compulsive and unstoppable.
But in the end, beyond the science fiction it seemingly plays with, To Move in Time focuses on essential questions about what is worthwhile, what needs caring for, and what can be transformed.
With an obsessive, complex, and contradictory stream of consciousness, the piece combines Etchells’ text with Huggins’ powerful performance to move between comic absurdity and a certain melancholy.
