Gabriel Chamé Buendia returns to Shakespeare through humour and the playfulness of the physical and poetic gag
Medida por Medida (La culpa es tuya) is a free adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play directed by Gabriel Chamé Buendia, which addresses the moral dilemmas of justice, law and power with humour and physical poetics. Through playful stage language, the show takes a critical look at corruption, ethics and religion, placing the female figure at the centre of a disturbing and current conflict: the abuse of political and sexual power.
The play, deeply connected to the thought of the Gospels and with touches of the present, avoids moral judgements by revealing human contradictions with tragic intensity. With more questions than answers, it invites us to review the social structures that govern us and to question the boundaries between rigour and compassion. Guilt – in its political, cultural and emotional dimension – becomes the axis of an incisive reflection on power, responsibility and the human condition.
