El día del Watusi

Francisco Casavella's great novel transforms into a vital chronicle of the shantytowns of Barcelona and the Transition, the B-side of the Olympic dream.

Last season’s most awarded play, El día del Watusi, renews its cast but not its corrosive view of recent memory. Fernando Atienza, a drifter and witness to three turbulent decades, recounts his life from the shantytowns of Montjuïc to the 1992 Olympic dream. It all starts from a key day: August 15, 1971, a day that will shape the protagonist’s way of understanding the world. The great project by director Iván Morales (Esmorza amb mi, TA18) builds, based on Francisco Casavella’s novel, a lucid and poignant portrait of Barcelona.
