Jimena Márquez –a key figure in Uruguayan theatre– steps in front of the audience to deconstruct the myth of Dionysus, memory, identity, and the power of theatre
The starting point is a mysterious case dating back to 2004, when a man calling himself Dionisos Contreras disrupted theatrical performances in Montevideo. Based on this anecdote, El desmontaje traces a journey between documentary, lecture, and autofiction. Jimena Márquez – a key figure in Uruguayan theatre – reconstructs that silenced story through real testimonies and weaves in reflections on the ritual nature of theatre, the limits of performance, and the power structures that regulate who can go on stage and how. A poignant and playful tale about memory, identity, and the power of theatre
