The 33rd edition of the Season High Festival is coming, which will take place from September 12 to December 8, and we want to explain to you what this year’s festival will essentially consist of through its key points. It will have a total of 110 shows, 21 world premieres, 23 international shows from 17 countries, with around 185 initial performances and 58,647 tickets on sale.
Here we explain the key points of this year’s festival:
- We look towards Europe by co-producing works such as Bérenice, by Romeo Castellucci with Isabelle Huppert, Paisatges compartits, led by Caroline Barneaud and Stefan Kaegi, Un sublime error by the Belgian company Needcompany or Totentanz. Morgen ist die frage, the new project by La Veronal.
- Tre modi por non morire directed and performed by Toni Servillo, Dans la mesure de l’impossible by Tiago Rodrigues, or Age of content by the company (La)Horde, led by the Ballet National de Marseille, are some of the international shows that, together with the co-productions and proposals from Conexión Iberoamérica, make up this year’s line-up.
- As a prelude to the 2024 edition, before the official opening, five performances of Carmina Burana will be shown, the Fura dels Baus show that is coming to the festival after captivating more than 400,000 spectators in Europe, Asia and America.
- Next, we will have an opening weekend filled with premieres: the bet of the director and playwright Jordi Casanovas (Allà lluny hi ha una caseta), the free version of Gaviota by the Argentine director Guillermo Cacace, the absolute premiere of David Mamet with Emma Vilarasau, Marta Marco i Emma Arquillué on stage (Un matrimoni en Boston) and the European project Paisatges compartits, among other proposals.
- We remain faithful to the drive of Catalan stage creation and this year we co-produced 11 Catalan shows by artists such as Oriol Pla (Gola), Lucia del Greco (Pura passió), Jordi Casanovas (Allà lluny hi ha una caseta), cabosanroque (El castor que plorava), Aina Tur (Sis hectàrees d’oliveres), Llàtzer Garcia (Bartleby), Les impuxibles (Caramel) and José y sus hermana (Morir lo hace todo el mundo).
- The Conexión Iberoamérica cycle is back with a vengeance, presenting 8 shows and several premieres in Catalonia: Centroamérica by Lagartijas tiradas al sol, Kill me by Marina Otero, Tierra by Sergio Blanco and Temis by Compañía Bonobo are some of the most outstanding works.
- The Programmers Week receives a new boost and is now called Big bang to show an explosion of talent taking advantage of the presence of international programmers. On those days you will be able to see artists such as Romeo Castellucci with Isabelle Huppert, La Veronal, cabosanroque, Azkona-Toloza, El Conde de Torrefiel, Atresbandes or Marina Otero.
- In this 33rd edition, the dramatised readings with big names of the Catalan scene such as Jordi Boixaderas (Rousseau), Pere Arquillué and Josep Maria Fonalleras (Fe, fidelitat i saviesa), Carme Elias and Ramon Madaula (Cartes d’amor) and Carlos Cuevas (Thoreau – Walden) stand out.
- The Fundació La Ciutat Invisible, with the A Tempo project, returns to the classrooms with 11 proposals aimed at infant, primary, secondary and special education and once again organises the Dramaturgy Tournament in High Schools.
