We close the 33rd edition of Temporada Alta breaking new records. After last year we reached the biggest total audience in recent years, this year we surpassed ourselves again and reached 60,436 hall spectators, almost 10,000 more than in the last edition, which was 51,800. In total, the festival has received 6,557 attendees among the hall spectators (60,436), the participants in the project A Tempo (3,808) and the attendees of complementary activities (2.313). This data should also be taken into account that among the 191 performances there has been 92% occupancy and there have been 23 shows with tickets sold out in all or some of their functions.
During the 12 weeks of the festival, 110 shows were presented in 191 performances between Salt, Girona and the 8 sub-sites scattered throughout the territory. This year, as in the last edition, a very good start of ticket sales was achieved again: 35% of the tickets sold at the end of the first day of general sale. In addition, 5,833 people have purchased tickets for the first time for the festival, 12.60% have been under 30 years of age and 26.2% from outside the Girona region.
With thirty-three editions behind it, the festival has become one of the main agents of the country in terms of support for creation and 12 of the productions or co-productions of this year have achieved a tour or season in theaters inside or outside the country. This is the case of Gola, by Oriol Pla and Pau Matas, who is doing season at the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya, Totentanz-Morgen ist die Frage, which can be seen at the Teatre Lliure in Barcelona or Un sublime error, by Jan Lauwers, which after its premiere at the festival will be exhibited at the Heartbreak Hotel in Barcelona, at the Teatro de la Abadía in Madrid and an international tour. Also 38 of the co-productions of previous editions continue to be performed years after its premiere.
With the aim of acting as an exhibition space for the most interesting on the world stage, Temporada Alta has programmed 23 shows by international artists from 17 countries, highlighting the presence of Isabelle Huppert in Girona to present Bérénice, a new adaptation of the classic of Racine directed by Romeo Castellucci. This representation has taken place within the framework of the Big Bang – Professional Week, which this year has adopted a new name and has hosted 75 national and international professionals.
Historical relief of artistic direction
This edition has also been the last with Salvador Sunyer at the head of the festival. Sunyer, founder of Bitò and Temporada Alta, has decided to give the relay of the festival to Narcís Puig, who has been its deputy director since 2010, in what is a historical relay and the beginning of a new stage of a consolidated project in the territory.
