Catedral de Girona
Girona Cathedral, a magnificent example of Catalan Gothic architecture, stands majestically in the heart of the old city of Girona, Catalonia. With over a thousand years of history, this imposing structure is a living testimony to the region’s glorified past.
Its façade, ornamented with intricate sculptural detailing, captivates the eye of visitors from the very first moment. The main entrance, flanked by two massive towers, conveys a sense of grandeur and serenity.
Inside, where the festival performances are usually held, visitors are greeted by a large, elevated central nave, adorned with leaded glass windows that project multicoloured lights. The ribbed vaults and pointed arches create a sense of height and spaciousness, while the altarpieces, tombs and religious paintings adorning the walls capture the attention of observers with their intrinsic beauty and spiritual significance.
The first time Temporada Alta programmed a show inside Girona Cathedral was in 2022 with Confessions de Sant Agustí, a reading performed by Joan Carreras.
The cathedral also houses the Tapestry of Creation, a masterpiece of Catalan Romanesque architecture, and the highest bell tower in Catalonia, from which you can enjoy a spectacular view of the city and its surroundings.
With its rich history and impressive architecture, Girona Cathedral continues to be a place of veneration, contemplation and admiration for visitors from all over the world, beyond being used as a spectacular setting for some of the festival’s proposals.
