Baró d’Evel
Baró d’Evel is a performing arts company founded and directed by the artistic duo Camille Decourtye and Blaï Mateu Trias. Based between Catalonia and France, their work inhabits a hybrid territory where physical theatre, contemporary circus, dance, music and the visual arts coexist, always with meticulous research into presence, rhythm and visual composition. Their language is deeply artisanal: the body, matter and space become the main materials of a dramaturgy that does not depend so much on linear narrative as on images, atmospheres and actions that are linked together with a sensorial logic.
Baró d’Evel: a performing arts company combining physical theatre, contemporary circus, dance and animals
One of the unique features of Baró d’Evel is the relationship with animals on stage—especially horses and birds—which do not appear as decoration, but as living presences that transform the time and energy of what is happening. This coexistence reinforces a central idea of their universe: the stage as a fragile ecosystem, in which every gesture has consequences and where absolute control is impossible. Risk, care and error are part of the creative process itself.
Visual aesthetics and live music at Baró d’Evel: black and white, mud, ink and scenic transformation
The company has become recognisable for its high-impact aesthetics, often dominated by radical contrasts such as black and white, dust, mud or ink, and for its use of scenographic elements that are activated and transformed live. In its pieces, music and sound do not function merely as accompaniment, but as another layer of movement and meaning, whose presence is often interpreted on stage.
Over the years, Baró d’Evel has consolidated an international career with creations that have left their mark on audiences and programmes thanks to their poetic power and a way of understanding performance as a shared experience. Their work advocates a contemporary and radically human perspective: celebrating vulnerability, exploring chaos and, in turn, seeking moments of unexpected beauty amid disorder.
