From 20 to 23 November, Temporada Alta will once again become the epicentre of the leading exponents of contemporary creation, coinciding with the celebration of the Big Bang. A total of 10 internationally renowned artists and companies – some of them also emerging – shape the week’s programme, among which the premiere of SEPPUKU. EL FUNERAL DE MISHIMA o el placer de morir, the new show by Angélica Liddell, stands out.
For four days, a hundred performing arts programmers with very diverse profiles (playwriting, acting, programming, directing, management, translation, set design…) will visit Girona. Although it is common throughout the festival for programmers to come and see the scheduled shows, during these four days professionals from all over the world are invited to foster the internationalisation of the Catalan scene and to facilitate the production, co-production and touring of shows.
In order to connect programmers and artists, and to present new projects that may encourage co-production or early programming by international institutions, a series of closed-door professional activities will take place during these days. This is a valuable opportunity for artists to understand the perspectives and artistic lines of international professionals, helping them identify which artistic contexts may be suitable for their future productions.
In addition to Angélica Liddell’s premiere, the programme for this edition maintains its usual structure, combining internationally renowned artists such as Miet Warlop (Inhale Delirium Exhale) and Marina Otero (AYOUB) with other proposals by artists and companies from the country who are currently gaining international momentum or have the potential to do so, such as Oriol Pla and Pau Matas (Gola), Lorena Nogal (PICASSa), Magda Puig and Andreu Martínez (Manual para seres vivos), Agrupación Señor Serrano (Historia del amor) and Roser López Espinosa (Cèl·lula #6: Faula). The final goal is to generate an artistic exchange among all of them, the professionals, and the attending audience.
Big Bang 2025 will also screen two films: the recording of the play Dans la solitude des champs de coton, Patrice Chéreau, and Imprenteros, by Lorena Vega and Gonzalo Javier Zapico.
Since its beginnings in 2011, more than a thousand national and international professionals have come to Girona, including representatives from prestigious institutions such as the Festival d’Avignon, the Théâtre Odeon in Paris, the Wiener Festwochen in Vienna, the Kunsten Festival des Arts in Brussels, the Festival of Naples, Foreign Affairs in Berlin, the Théâtre de la Ville and the Festival d’Automne, both in Paris, and the Public Theater in New York, among many others.
