Agnés Mateus and Quim Tarrida question faith, religion and beliefs
This piece stems from an initial desire: to make a show about religion. But, in a year, many things have happened: religion has become fashionable and so have wars, once again. Agnés Mateus and Quim Tarrida ask themselves what faith is, whether we are believers, what we believe in, how and why. Do we need to believe? Do we really need someone to save us?
The show connects great tragedies with everyday massacres: Black Friday is a matter of life and death, having the latest iPhone is vital, and dressing appropriately for the Met Gala is world news. In the face of the annihilation of human beings, the banal concerns of right-thinking Europeans continue to take centre stage.
Massacre asks whether we can make humour about massacres, whether we can laugh on a heap of smoking ruins, and whether we can continue to cling to beliefs that convince us to annihilate the other.
