Una normalidad extraordinaria<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Una crisis sanitaria, social y cultural que lo ha cambiado todo nos ha instalado en el terreno de la incertidumbre absoluta, \u00a1pero las artes siempre se han movido y se mover\u00e1n en la crisis y la incertidumbre! Hemos querido que la 29\u00aa edici\u00f3n de Temporada Alta fuera lo m\u00e1s continuista posible y, por esta raz\u00f3n, hemos mantenido una programaci\u00f3n basada en los ejes que conforman el festival: la internacionalizaci\u00f3n, el soporte a la creaci\u00f3n y la autor\u00eda del pa\u00eds, los v\u00ednculos con los espectadores y la ciudadan\u00eda, as\u00ed como los proyectos socioeducativos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hemos trabajado para ofrecer las m\u00e1ximas garant\u00edas de seguridad en los espacios y para que los teatros sean espacios seguros, con distancia de seguridad en el interior de las salas y todas las medidas necesarias. Por todo esto el festival de este a\u00f1o ha tenido una programaci\u00f3n presencial un poco m\u00e1s reducida, pero hemos incorporado una secci\u00f3n de programaci\u00f3n a distancia: el entorno digital nos ofrece nuevas oportunidades para explorar. As\u00ed que hemos querido aprovechar las circunstancias actuales para replantearnos algunas cosas y trazar las l\u00edneas de lo que podr\u00eda ser un festival del futuro.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Un doble festival<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Temporada Alta ha presentado un total de 111 espect\u00e1culos durante la edici\u00f3n del 2020, 56 de los cuales se han podido ver en modalidad presencial y 55 en modalidad a distancia. El festival ha conseguido mantener casi la totalidad de los espect\u00e1culos inicialmente previstos y, ante el cierre de los teatros durante dos semanas, desde la organizaci\u00f3n se ha decidido alargar el festival hasta el 22 de diciembre y reprogramar el m\u00e1ximo de espect\u00e1culos posibles, ya sea de forma presencial o ofreci\u00e9ndolos en el marco de la programaci\u00f3n a distancia. La respuesta del p\u00fablico a la incorporaci\u00f3n de la programaci\u00f3n a distancia, que se ha puesto en marcha este a\u00f1o por primera vez, ha sido muy positiva y ha permitido experimentar con nuevos formatos de creaci\u00f3n y exhibici\u00f3n, as\u00ed como ofrecer espect\u00e1culos que no se han poddo ver de forma presencial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ha sido el festival m\u00e1s dif\u00edcil que hemos vivido, pero hemos conseguido los objectivos que nos hab\u00edamos propuesto gracias a todas las personas que han participado y tambi\u00e9n gracias a la complicidad de los ciudadanos, que no han dejado de venir al teatro.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

El cartel: renacer de las cenizas<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Last year\u2019s fires in Brazil were catastrophic: according to Brazil\u2019s National Institute of Special Research (INPE), between January and the first three weeks of August, 71,497 outbreaks of fire were counted, half of which were detected in the Amazon region. The fires occurred in several states in Brazil \u2013 Roraima, Acre, Rondonia, Mato Grosso do Sul and Amazonia \u2013 and the smoke was such that it darkened the skies over S\u00e3o Paulo, on the other side of the country, after extreme-right President Jair Bolsonaro relaxed the controls of the environmental agency, IBAMA, and signed legislation favouring agriculture and mining, activities that are partly responsible for the fires. It is no surprise to be talking about the environment in the context of performing arts festival like Temporada Alta: the artists who perform in each edition bring many current issues to the stage. Another reason is the festival\u2019s growing presence in Latin America. All the same, the specific reason why this text starts by describing the ravages of the fires in Brazil is to announce what the photographer Cristina de Middel is setting out to convey with the image of this year\u2019s edition, the 29th: \u201cAs the festival gave me a blank cheque, I looked for an image that would be aesthetically attractive yet behind all those colours there is a message of alarm to reflect the times we live in. I really like posters, they represent a different use of the image\u201d, she points out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the first time that Cristina de Middel has been commissioned to produce a poster, although other images of hers have been used on other posters. \u201cThe situation of the fires in Mato Grosso, where I took the photograph, was terrible\u201d, says the artist, who likes to leave a margin for the viewer to make their own interpretation of the image: \u201cWe don\u2019t know if it\u2019s for good or ill, if it\u2019s right or wrong, the image can be read several ways. Each photograph is like a word, and you include it in a sentence so that it says one thing or another. I think it\u2019s fantastic to recycle the meaning of an image; it\u2019s a triumph of photography\u201d, she explains.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

CCristina de Middel left Spain almost ten years ago and has been living between Brazil and Mexico in the last five. The coronavirus pandemic has reduced her pace of work and, after becoming known for her photography with a social focus, as she lives in the midst of the rain forest in the state of Bahia, she is now moving forward with a project on the struggle between Man and Nature: \u201cIt\u2019s a project I\u2019m working on with my husband, Bruno Morais, with the animals and insects that come into our home\u201d. De Middel stresses that her experience of Nature is \u201cdeeply immersive\u201d. \u201cThe invasion we are conducting is becoming increasingly evident. When you have a house in the middle of the jungle, you suddenly come across snakes, bats and all kinds of insects, as big as your fist. It\u2019s not even a war, the space belongs to them, and we are compelled to reflect on our role in Nature\u201d, de Middel concludes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De Middel\u2019s commission can be related to another photographer who has questioned the limits of photography: Joan Fontcuberta (2006). And with him, Eul\u00e0lia Valldosera (2014), because they share the same ecological concern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cristina De Middel, Alicante 1975.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Photographer Cristina De Middel (Alicante, 1975) has been an associate member of the agency Magnum since 2017 and lives and works between Mexico and Brazil. Of her own work, de Middel, who received the Spanish National Photography Award in 2017, states that it combines \u201cdocumentary and conceptual approaches\u201d and that it plays \u201cwith the reconstruction of archetypes and stereotypes that help to blur the separation between reality and fiction\u201d. After working for ten years in the print media and as a humanitarian photographer, de Middel\u2019s career took a turn with the photobook The Afronauts<\/em>, a re-creation through mises-en-sc\u00e8nes<\/em> of the Zambian government\u2019s failed mission to travel to the Moon. With this book, she was the first Spanish finalist for the prestigious Deutsche B\u00f6rse award in 2013, and in that same year she won the International Center of Photography (ICP)\u2019s Infinity Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cristina de Middel holds a degree in Fine Arts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, and a postgraduate degree in Photography from the University of Oklahoma and in Photojournalism from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Among the more than a dozen photobooks that she has published are Party<\/em> (Editorial RM and AMC Books, 2013), This is What Hatred Did<\/em> (Editorial RM and AMC Books, 2015), Muchismo<\/em> (La F\u00e1brica, 2016), Cucurrucuc\u00fa<\/em> (Editorial RM, 2016) and The Perfect Man <\/em>(La F\u00e1brica, 2017). She is also well-known in Catalonia, as in 2017 she won the first photographic prize organised by F.C. Barcelona. Cristina de Middel is represented by the gallery Juana de Aizpuru (Madrid).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of the collections in which one can find works by Cristina de Middel are the New York Metropolitan, the Polytechnic University of Valencia, the Ibiza Museum of Contemporary Art, the Sarthou Carreres Foundation and the art collections of the Espiritu Santo Bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
